Since EAC was founded from the old Eksteenskuil Farmers Association in 2006, we have created a strong and well managed organisation that serves as a focal point for our farmers and the wider community. We have worked hard to build strong, trusting relationships with our members, our business partners and our stakeholders and we work together to the advantage of our land and people.
One hundred smallholder farmers have joined EAC and farm approximately over 520 hectares. Our climate is ideal for vines, alfalfa, water melons, potatoes and maize. The farmers are growing raisins on approximately 200 hectares and this is our most important cash crop.
EAC has a positive, creative and mutually supportive relationship with Red Sun Raisins, our main processing partner. We have worked closely together to develop projects together, to access new markets and to develop branded packaging. We are currently working together to create new co-branded products which we hope to take to new markets, especially the local market. This is a relationship which we expect to thrive and strengthen over the coming years.

Carpe Diem Raisins (Pty) Ltd (“CDR”) established in 2006 is a packer and raisin exporter located 10km from Upington in the Northern Cape, exporting approximately 10 000 tons of raisins to foreign buyers. CDR is 50% held by Johan van der Colff Trust and 50% held by KLK Limited.
The raisin packing factory has a production capacity of 12 000 tons. The current managing director, Gog van der Colff has approximately 16 years’ experience in growing raisins and 10 years in the raisin export industry.
Gog van der Colff was voted as the Toyota Young Farmer of the Year 2011. Gog van der Colff’s father, Johannes van der Colff has been growing table grapes and raisins in the Upington region for the last 40 years.
CDR packs and markets approximately 22% of South Africa’s total raisin production. Approximately 5% of production is sold to the local market and approximately 95% are exported all around the world.
Carpe Diem’s infrastructure and facility is accredited to export and to supply South African buyers such as Woolworths, Cadburys and Chipkins. CDR export 14 raisin varieties with the bulk of their exports being Golden Sultanas, Thompson, Flame and OR.
CDR has a staff compliment of 27 permanent staff and 115 seasonal staff. Carpe Diem produces 100% organic export table grapes, raisins and pecan nuts.

HPS specialized in blasting work in the Northern Cape area, building a reputation for quality, fast and honest work ethics, HPS was forced to expand into Plant Hire in 2003 by the demand for soil preparation. The very first machine was a Komatsu PC 200 excavator, expanding from blasting to earth works and later to civil works as well.
Mr. Bertie Hanekom, son of Mr. Albert Hanekom, joined the team in 2005 to help manage the fast growing company. Mr. Bertie Hanekom studied a National Diploma in Financial Management and took part as plant manager while helping with the tender processes and budgeting debtors and creditors.
Mr. Albert Hanekom stayed focus on building strong relationships with old and new clients with the company’s core policy still been “quality & reliability”. Mr. Hansie Hanekom, youngest son of Mr. Albert Hanekom, started his career at HPS in 2013.

HPS decided to change the name from HPS to HPC to deal with expansions in the Plant hire departments and Civil projects departments.
Mr. Hansie Hanekom studied for a national diploma in building and then took his studies further and completed a B.Tech degree in Quantity Surveying.
He took over the tender processes with the guidance and help of Mr. Albert Hanekom. The father and son combination prove to be working well as Mr. Bertie Hanekom focused on plant hire and earth works while Mr. Hansie Hanekom concentrated on tendering and civil projects, and Mr. Albert Hanekom on quality control, client satisfaction and general management of the two divisions under the HPC banner.
